The artist, “remembered” herself. A multifaceted person in life, with a career in Communications which took her on many journeys, she found herself standing on a kind of cosmic crossroad, which caused her to recall.
Vivian is stimulated from anything or anyone – from life. She deals with different subject matters, drawn from different directions and sometimes varies in the medium used. Although, her passion lies in the texture, liveliness and patience found in oil colors.
Portraits are inspired by the people she adores. Those alive and near her, and those gone – but near us all. She is currently working on a series of portraits; “Sharing Thumbnails” – Read about it in the Portfolio section.
Nature and still art paintings have been largely influenced by the natural beauty of Greece’s geography. Part of this beauty is imprinted on the doors she has painted. But, her urban character is also shown in her pop inspired works, depicting her homecity, NYC.
From her morning walks in nature, the influence of the practice of yoga she has been inspired to experiment with floral watercolor paintings. The dreamy romanticism involved in these works, give her balance – “breathers” – between the layering and the glazing involved in the “oil on canvas” projects. It’s a new and delicate world, which comes alive, when the weather gets warmer… And that is why that section of her work, is called “Thirsty Watercolors” – for an obvious reason.
One way or another, from whichever stage she passes; whatever medium used; however she sets a plan and organizes a painting – Vivian rarely calls herself a painter…
She perceives that a painting paints itself, and she is merely a channel – guided by something else. Perhaps it is how she defines inspiration. Or how she wishes to “serve” art. The result is that Vivian Zotali’s art is characterized by her dreamy style, emotional impressionistic technique, balancing dark tonal tones with a color palette which ranges in the pink-purple and green-blue areas.
